The Minority Health and Health Disparities International Research Training Fellowship is designed to promote diversity in the global health research workforce by providing the opportunity for up to 8 undergraduate students each year to participate in an 11-week summer training program designed to provide: (1) exposure to landmark findings and current challenges in global health and health disparities research; (2) training in qualitative and quantitative research methods; (3) eight weeks of hands-on experience conducting mentored research in one of three international research sites (in the Dominican Republic, Kazakhstan, Kenya or Swaziland); and (4) career and graduate admissions counseling. 

The program will take place between June and August, starting with two weeks of training and orientation in New York City, followed by 8 weeks abroad, and then a final “capstone” week in NYC.

The fellowship is fully funded. The 8 trainees from Columbia and Barnard will receive funding for travel, housing/living expenses in NYC and abroad, an additional stipend of $1,200 per month. 
The fellowship is open to a wide variety of majors including:  Africana studies, Anthropology, Archaeology, Asian and Middle Eastern cultures (Barnard), East Asian languages and cultures (Columbia), Astronomy, Biological sciences, Chemistry, Comparative ethnic studies, Computer sciences, Earth and environmental sciences, Ecology, evolution and environmental biology, Economics, European studies, Mathematics, Philosophy, Physics, Political science, Psychology, Sociology, Spanish and Latin American cultures  (Barnard), Latin American and Caribbean studies (Columbia), Latin American and Iberian cultures (Columbia), Statistics, Women's, gender and sexuality studies. If your major is not on this list but you think it should be, please contact Katie Tang at kkt2115@columbia.edu to see if you might be eligible.

In order to be eligible, students must have completed their sophomore year by May 2015, must have a 3.0 grade point average, and be either an underrepresented minority, from a low income background, or come from a rural background. Applicants must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States.

Applications are due on DECEMBER 19th and will require a bit of preparation, so start working on them ASAP!
