The above budget sheet is estimated for the academic year 2016-2017
  • Tuition: Columbia, Barnard and Penn students pay their home school tuition (which is not listed above) and are billed by their home school. GS students pay the per point GS rate.  All other students are considered Visiting Students and pay the amount listed above.
  • Program Fee: Subsidizes the following: program activities, some course materials, university fees, required French housing and liability insurance, and printing supplies. $800 of this amount is due at the time of confirmation of participation and acts as a nonrefundable deposit in order to secure your place in the program. Students participating for the full year must pay $400 for their second semester of participation. Due to OGP, not billed on Columbia/Barnard account.
  • Housing: The cost of housing depends on which option you choose and how many meals you elect with a host family. The above estimate is an average. The range in cost is approximately $900-$1300/month. You are billed separately by Host Families in Paris and your bill will include a one month's deposit and handling fee of about $60, in addition to any fees your bank charges to transfer money.
    • Non-Program Housing students: Please note that if you are opting out of program housing, you will need to pay an administrative fee of approximately 50€ once you arrive in Paris. This is to cover the administrative processing for your required housing insurance.
  • Food: The cost for meals and food will depend both on individual student spending habits and on the number of meals taken with a host family. The above estimate is an average. The range in cost for meals is approximately $600-$800/month. Students can keep their food costs within the budget by taking advantage of the inexpensive meals at the university cafeterias and preparing their own meals. Restaurants in Paris are quite expensive.
  • Local Transportation: Costs vary widely depending on the location of student's home, whether or not they bicycle or walk, etc. The Navigo Pass (available to students under 26) costs approximately $440 for the year or $40/month. The program will provide information on how to attain one upon admission to the program.
  • Personal Expenses: Personal expenses will depend on each student's spending habits. The estimate above is an average of what students say they actually spend.
