Program Description:
Columbia College’s Harry J. Carman Fellowships were established by friends of former Dean Carman in 1949 to support one or two graduating seniors each year in pursuit of advanced post-baccalaureate study.  While these terms are broad, in practice selection committees offer awards to help defray the costs of formal graduate study—toward any graduate degree, in any field, and in any location.

The selection committee has approximately $13,500 to distribute each year, to one or two recipients as the applicant pool merits.  Current seniors in Columbia College are eligible, provided they are in good academic and disciplinary standing, have outstanding academic records, and propose a plan of study for which they are well-prepared.

The suitability of a candidate’s chosen course of study and choice of institution given his or her academic interests and trajectory are the major factors affecting selection.  A candidate’s financial need for this support is also an important consideration.
