NON-BILLABLE expenses are not billed by Columbia. The estimated figures in this section provide a basis for students to determine their individual budgets for expenses related to their time overseas for the duration of the program. The above estimate is an average of what students say they actually spend. These expenses are NOT paid to the program.
It is required that you maintain a health insurance policy that will also provide coverage outside the U.S. for routine, urgent and emergent care. This cost is not included in the chart above.

*Tuition: Columbia University (Barnard College, Columbia College, SEAS, School of General Studies), Cornell University, Johns Hopkins University, Princeton University, University of Chicago, University of Pennsylvania, University of Notre Dame and Vassar College: You will be billed at your home school’s regular tuition rate directly by your home school.
Visiting Students: If your school is not listed above, then you are considered a Visiting Student. You are responsible for paying the BCGS tuition and document (transcript) fees directly to Columbia University. The program invoice will be sent via e-bill mid-August and will be due mid-September. It covers tuition, course excursions, most course materials, some local transportation and cultural activities. It does not cover housing, meals, airfare, medical insurance, some course materials, personal travel, and personal expenses.
Program Fee: The program fee covers orientation housing, guest stay housing during the first 4 weeks of the program (which includes daily breakfast and one dinner a week), and a full year of German Health Insurance.
Document (transcript) Fee: This one-time fee of $105 is charged to new students. This fee will be included on your e-bill. Barnard students might be charged this fee if they haven’t taken a course at Columbia.
